I did provide accountability and demonstrated results on all 2016 campaign promises. school attained an A rating, after 8 years. Took a team to get Flagler District to an A rating school, after 8 years.
Graduation rate: All students at 2016-17/ 81.1% year 2019-20/ 92%, ESE students at 2016-17/ 56% year 2019-20/ 79%, African American students year 2016-17/ 69% year 2019-20/ 85%, and Hispanic students year 2016-17/ 81% year 2019-20/ 90%.
*Been provided more accelerations opportunities by funding college classes been provided to multi students, including Flagships programs to classroom to career accomplishments. *Been increased mental health services, tutoring, mentoring and free wi-fi hotpots & other supports for students. *I did bring transparency to multi issues, including updating multi policies, job description and adopt safe school legislation requirements. *I been engaged in all schools, community groups, mentor, Key Club sponsor- adviser, and always accessible to all who need to talk to me.
I am seeking re-election to continue to serve my community and the Flagler School Board.
I am seeking my second four-year term on the Flagler County School Board. During my tenure, in 2019, Flagler Schools attained an A rating from the Florida Department of Education. Under the leadership of Superintendent James Tager and my colleagues on the Board, this was the first time in 8 years that Flagler Schools received this outstanding rating.
My priority is always our student’s success and ensuring that as a school system we are not only supporting them, but also our parents and families. I want to thank and support our staff and educators that make this the place to educate and raise a family. As our Superintendent has previously stated: “ Teamwork is the key.”
My focus is on service to our community. That is the reason I love being a school board member. When I am not busy with School Board business, I spend much of my time volunteering in ways too numerous to completely list here. Among these efforts I am currently President of the Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis Club, a leading contributor to our students and schools. The club sponsors Terrific Kids, and student leadership programs such as K-Kids, Builders Clubs and Key Clubs. We also provide scholarships to our graduating High School seniors.
In my role on the school board I also strongly support and encourage our early learning, pre-K and VPK programs. The importance of these programs cannot be overstated. It gives children the opportunity to jump start their school skills such as reading, math , language, and social skills. All these efforts have helped improve our overall graduation rates, particularly among our minority students. I strongly support our ESE programs which help our students with disabilities, our Flagship Schools which focus on academic and career accomplishments.
My future goals include continuing to enhance our student’s success in learning, graduating, and pursuing rewarding careers. I look to improve Flagler Schools mental health efforts to ensure that we are intervening where needed, again with the focus on the student and their needs. I support our continuing efforts to prevent and deal with such issues as Bullying. Self-esteem and healthy self-image for our students is so vital to their well-being.
I want to welcome our new Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt 2020 and look forward to working with her to continue the success of our previous Superintendent. I want to acknowledge that this school year with Covid-19 has been a challenge to both our learning environment and the safety of our students. I want to assure you that I am committed to both goals.
